Kelly's interest in horses began when his father took him to the racetrack as a young boy. At the age of 18 he bought his first race horse. Through the age of twenty one he was active with the care and training of his horses. However, when his Father passed away the family business needed his help. The horses were sold. Twenty years went by until Kelly purchased his next race horse.

He started back with Terry Tomlin in Michigan. Kelly began jogging and training under the guidance of Terry, and he encouraged Kelly to drive in the races. Kelly also ventured into Breeding. He has bred several stakes winners in both the US and Canada. Now Kelly spends his mornings helping Terry train his young stock before he heads to the Greenhouse.

Some of Kelly's favorite wins include The Red Mile, The Meadowlands, Motukarra Raceway, NZ

Charlottetown, PEI, Woodbine and Mohawk Raceway. Winning two races in one day during the Little Brown Jug meet. Winning against the Pros at Chester. The Meadows, Monticello, Yonkers and of course Pompano!
